Asian stock markets were broadly lower on Monday, taking cues from a negative finish on Wall Street last week after December's nonfarm payrolls report gave a mixed view of the economy.
China's benchmark Shanghai
Composite index opened down 0.4 percent to a one-week low on Monday. Last Friday, markets saw a volatile session, with heavy selling in the late afternoon leading the key share index to finish lower after surging up to a more than four-year high of 3,404 points. Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index opened up 0.5 percent. Meanwhile, Japanese markets are closed for the "Coming of Age Day".South Korean shares edged down early Monday amid declines in index heavyweights.
